'Chilly war' raises tensions ahead of summit

Russia had planned its presidency of the Group of Eight as a celebration of its return as a leading power to the world stage. Instead, July's St Petersburg summit is in danger of becoming an embarrassment.

With US Vice-President Dick Cheney attackingRussia's democracy record this month and urging President George W. Bush to use the summit to put pressure on Russia, Moscow officials are fretting that tensions could overshadow the gathering.
