Cristina Fernández faced calls for profound changes to her government and policies on Thursday, after a dramatic defeat in the Argentine Congress for her plan to raise farm export tariffs.
The bill was killed by Julio Cobos, her vice-president, who as president of the Senate cast the decisive "no" after two rounds of voting ended in a tie. The final vote was held at 4.25am on Thursday, after 17 hours of debate.
