Clarke aims to cap ID card fee at £30

Charles Clarke, the home secretary, plans to recoup savings from other Whitehall budgets so he can cap the fee some people will pay for identity cards at £30 a head.

Ahead of a Commons vote on the controversial ID cards bill next Tuesday, the Home Office confirmed last night that it would set a limit on the fee charged for the cards.
