Toyota signalled potential ambitions in aerospace on Wednesday as it committed Y7bn ($67m) to help fund the first Japanese-made passenger jet.

The automaker said it would take a 10 per cent stake in a new development company set up by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which is to manufacture the 70-90 seat regional aircraft for commercial delivery in 2013.
