World Bank row grows over Wolfowitz partner's pay rise

The dispute over the pay increase and promotion awarded to Paul Wolfowitz's partner Shaha Riza when she was seconded from the World Bank to the US State Department intensified yesterday.

Both the then head of the bank board's ethics committee and its former general counsel directly challenged the version of events put forward by officials acting on behalf of Mr Wolfowitz, 63, the bank's president.
