Short View: Exit strategy

Officials do not come much more candid than those in Australia. On Wednesday, Wayne Swan, treasurer, bluntly told markets that without government stimulus the Australian economy would have been in recession.

That certainly put the damper on any potential investor celebrations following GDP data that showed growth of 0.6 per cent in the three months to June – far stronger than expected.
