NHS to allow private drug ‘top-ups’

Patients are to be allowed to pay for cancer drugs and other serious treatments privately without losing their right to NHS care.

But the threshold that the National Institute for Clinical Excellence uses to judge the cost-effectiveness of such drugs is to be raised significantly in an attempt to reduce the numbers having to do so.
