Most analysts doubt region will copy Bangkok

Now, Thailand has the opposite problem. Large investment inflows this year have caused the baht to appreciate by 17 per cent against the US dollar, which threatens to hurt export competitiveness.

Thailand has attempted to respond by imposing capital controls to curb the inflow of speculative funds. These were lifted for equities and foreign direct investment on Tuesday but were maintained for debt instruments.
