Gunmen kidnap French officials in Somalia

Two French officials working as security advisers to Somalia’s fragile interim government were kidnapped on Tuesday by gunmen who stormed their hotel in Mogadishu.

The abductions come as western states are desperately engaged in shoring up the interim government in the face of an insurgency by Islamist militias with alleged links to al-Qaeda.
