Financial services: Buffeting for banks from credit crisis

The marble columns and air-conditioned halls of the Dubai International Financial Centre still seem oddly removed from the panic that has engulfed the financial world.

Office rents have dropped about 40 per cent from their peak and the shops, restaurants and art galleries are noticeably less busy. But bankers say the financial centre has fared better than other financial hubs, such as Hong Kong, New York and London.
