Public projects boost US construction spending

US construction spending in November fell by an annual rate of 0.6 per cent, defying economists’ expectations of a drop more than twice as sharp, and was boosted by a year-end surge of public construction projects.

Increases in public spending could be a trend in 2009, according to RDQ Economics, as further infrastructure investment is expected as part of a stimulus package.
