The Short View: Asian markets

While the US financial system endures its crisis of confidence, markets in Asia have undergone a reversal of fortune.

China’s Shanghai Composite has failed to join this week’s rally and has taken over from Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh index as the region’s worst-performing market. In local currency terms, the Shanghai is now down 49 per cent for the year, while Vietnam is down 47.2 per cent.
