Chrysler executives insisted that Detroit’s smallest carmaker had a viable future in spite of a steep slide in sales and its dependence on US government aid.
Bob Nardelli, chief executive, said at the Detroit auto show: “Hibernation would be the furthest from the truth” as he referred referring to closure of all Chrysler’s North American plants for at least a month until January 19 to bring down swollen inventories.
