Richest football clubs could be forced to pay tax on star players

Europe's richest football clubs would have to pay a luxury tax on their star players that would be passed on to poorer clubs, under plans being considered by the sport's ruling body.

The proposal from the Union of European Football Associations comes amid mounting concern about spending levels in the game, where Manchester City paid £32.5m for Brazilian striker Robinho last year and the top 10 players command more than £120,000 a week.
