Chinese companies dwarf US rivals on IT and innovation expenditure

China's manufacturers will invest seven times more than their US peers this year in a move set to increase the competitive pressure on western rivals, a new survey shows today.

The findings are a sign of Chinese industrial producers' attempts to compete with US and European manufacturers on product quality and efficiency as well as low labour costs.
