New user boost at Globe Telecom

Globe Telecom, the Philippines' second biggest mobile phone company, signed up a record number of new subscribers in the second quarter, boosting first-half net profit to 6.9bn pesos ($124m).

Globe, owned by local conglomerate Ayala and Singapore Telecommunications, said yesterday it had added 1.4m users to its subscriber base, which stood at 10.5m as of the end of June, up 45 per cent from a year earlier.
