France signals power market reform

France pledged on Tuesday to open its electricity market to greater competition and to eradicate low power tariffs for big industrial users, in a bid to resolve disputes with Brussels over illegal state aid.

Francois Fillon, French Prime Minister, sent the first clear signal of a government willingness to reform the power market, still more than 85 per cent held by the state-owned incumbent EDF.
