For all the tales of German retail woe, the country’s consumers have apparently flocked to buy one product. Ist Deutschland noch zu retten? (Can Germany still be saved?) by Hans-Werner Sinn, the high-profile head of Munich's Ifo economics institute, has sold 120,000 copies and topped business best-seller lists.
The book’s retail success is piquant. Prof Sinn is an arch-proponent of the thesis that Europe's largest economy is being pulled apart by the forces of globalisation.
