Randgold, the West Africa-focused gold miner, boosted quarter-on-quarter production and profits in the first three months of the year in spite of rising costs .

Initial tests at two projects in Senegal and Mali showed them, respectively, to be “the makings of a world-class discovery” and “the makings of an important discovery”, Randgold said in its quarterly report.
