Guy Hands told EMI’s artists and their managers on Tuesday that they had seen the end of the era of multi-million dollar advances, but earned applause from staff and musicians’ representatives as he set out his plan for the struggling music group.

Flanked by bodyguards, Mr Hands was jostled by photographers and reporters as he arrived for the first of the day’s meetings at the Odeon cinema in High Street Kensington.
