Matt Ridley, the former chairman of troubled UK mortgage lender Northern Rock, will this year test whether his image with investors has recovered from his role at the embattled company.

Northern 2, the venture capital trust which Mr Ridley chairs, is seeking to raise £14.5m ($28.8m) in a share issue to fund more management buy-outs of small-cap companies.
