Croda International, the speciality chemicals maker, pointed to a fragile recovery in demand in spite of a slide in first-half revenue and profits.

Trading during the first six months was particularly hard hit by a 19 per cent fall in revenue at its industrial specialities division but profits at its consumer care business kept rising.
