High costs overshadow green gains

Toyota is riding high on the two-year-old technical triumph of its Prius hybrid petrol-electric car.

Demand for the model is well ahead of the Japanese company's ability to build the fuel-efficient hatchback, and Toyota is using the success of the car - the biggest-selling hybrid - to burnish its environmentally friendly credentials.
