Mandelson calls on Japan to open up

Japan should open up more to foreign investment, UK business secretary Lord Mandelson told an audience in Tokyo on Tuesday, saying he saw signs that Japan’s new Democratic party government is more sympathetic to change.

“I welcome very strongly the Hatoyama government’s willingness to challenge some of the older, negative assumptions about what is good for Japanese business and industry with respect to foreign ownership,” Lord Mandelson said.
