Slowdown could force UK to cut rates

The Bank of England is under severe pressure to cut interest rates on Thursday following a marked deterioration in the outlook for the UK economy.

Accelerating declines in house prices, the deepening slowdown in consumer spending and growing recessionary pressures in both manufacturing and the service sector, revealed by last week’s purchasing managers surveys, have combined to make a cut more likely.
