Drop in German output dents euphoria

German industrial production fell unexpectedly in March, puncturing some of the recent euphoria about Europe's largest economy, data showed yesterday.

The surprise 2.4 per cent seasonally adjusted drop compared with February partly reflects the unusual severe winter and, possibly, the impact of engineering industry strikes.
