Nokia’s push to broaden its business suffered a blow Friday when European antitrust authorities launched an examination of the mobile handset maker’s bid for Navteq, the digital mapmaker.
Nokia, of Finland, sees the acquisition of the US company as crucial to its efforts to diversify from its core handset making function into internet services for mobile phones. Navteq’s satellite-linked maps are widely used in car and personal navigation devices.
