Storms cost Catlin $200m

Catlin has revealed it would suffer losses of about $200m (£116m) from the devastation caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike, and a further $118m because of crashing stock markets.

The London-listed, Bermuda-based insurer said the $200m figure was based on assumptions that market-wide losses from the two storms, which hit the Gulf of Mexico in September, would be about $15bn.
