Tory tax pledge puts pressure on Brown

Gordon Brown faces fresh pressure to cut the tax burden on British business in this week’s Budget, after the Conservatives pledged to cut the headline rate of corporation tax by 3p in the pound.

With Mr Brown preparing to deliver his 11th and final Budget on Wednesday, George Osborne, shadow chancellor, told the Financial Times that the Conservatives would cut corporation tax from 30 per cent to 27 per cent if they won power.
