Although they are instantly recognisable and virtually ubiquitous, the golden arches of McDonald’s, the fast-food chain, might not be the most expected sight in a report dedicated to the “best workplaces”.
For decades staff working in this sector have been looked down on as mere “burger flippers”. And in recent years the label “McJob” has become common currency, used to describe any service sector role where pay, conditions and prospects are likely to be poor.
