The Met Office will this week announce plans to reposition itself as a content provider for mobile phones and other digital media platforms in the hope of “significantly” boosting the £6m-£7m annual revenues the state agency currently earns from broadcasters.
A new production studio in Millbank will give Met Office Media – which currently supplies the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, ITN and other terrestrial broadcasters – the capacity to produce tailored live and packaged video content for a wider range of television, online and mobile partners.
