Brown and Blair turn to election after Budget

Gordon Brown on Thursday hit back at Conservative claims that he was storing up tax increases until after the election, as he insisted the measures unveiled in the Budget were “affordable”.

The comments were part of Mr Brown’s media charm offensive on Thursday as he and Tony Blair, the prime minister, prepared to launch a new Labour poster campaign contrasting the government’s investment plans with what it says would be Conservative cuts.
