State school children are being handicapped academically by poor-quality teachers, the head of admissions for Cambridge University has told the Financial Times in an interview.

Asked how state schools could do a better job of nurturing bright pupils, Geoff Parks said: “It’s very clear that what makes the most difference to a young person is the quality of their teachers. And I don’t think enough people are attracted to the teaching profession who would be really good teachers.”
