The US government on Thursday confirmed that the head of Apex Digital, a US electronics distributor, had been detained in China, amid allegations of financial wrongdoing.

The arrest of David Ji, Apex's chairman and co-founder, comes as the company faces increasing pressure from some Chinese business partners over what they say are unpaid debts.
