Abbey National, the UK’s second largest mortgage lender, demanded that a borrower pay more money into his mortgage after falling house prices meant his outstanding loan was more than 90 per cent of the value of his home, MPs were told on Wednesday.
Nick Ainger, Labour MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, told the Commons Treasury committee that Abbey had written to his constituent asking him to pay the difference to the bank within three months.
