Land of Leather has pipped its rival ScS Upholstery to the post with plans for a capital raising before the end of the week as both sofa retailers scramble to withstand the collapse in demand for furniture.

Both have lost more than 90 per cent of their market value in the past 12 months amid fears the sector is heavily exposed to a decline in housing transactions and a fall in big-ticket purchases.
