Political row grows over ‘offensive’ caricatures

An international row over controversial caricatures of the prophet Mohammed gathered pace on Thursday after dailies in France and Germany reprinted images which originally appeared in a Danish publication.

Peter Mandelson, European Union commissioner, said republishing the caricatures was “throwing petrol on the flames of the original issue.”
