Trouble in paradise as non-dom loses against UK taxman

The failure of a British-born businessman to shed his UK domicile status may have serious ramifications for other UK non-doms who are trying to cut their tax bill, say accountants.

Robert Gaines-Cooper, 71, was born in the UK but now lives in the Seychelles. He has been in a long dispute with HM Revenue and Customs over his domicile status and recently took his case to the Court of Appeal.
