Lebanon and Bosnia to serve on Security Council

Lebanon and Bosnia-Herzegovina, states whose political and security problems regularly figure on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council, were on Thursday elected to serve as temporary members of the 15-member world body for the coming two years.

From January 1, they will join Brazil, Nigeria and Gabon to fill five rotating seats on the council, which has the authority to impose global sanctions and deploy peacekeeping forces to international trouble spots.
