Aceh on the brink of a long-awaited peace deal

Indonesia and separatist rebels from the country's tsunami-stricken Aceh province are expected today to sign a landmark peace agreement widely seen as the best opportunity yet for ending one of the world's longest-running conflicts.

The agreement - to be signed in Helsinki - comes closer than any previous accords to setting the framework for building a lasting peace in the province whose 4m people have endured war since 1976.
