Chile copper mine workers begin strike

More than 2,000 miners at Chile’s Escondida, the world’s largest copper mine, went on strike on Monday after talks for a new wage contract broke down over the weekend.

Copper earlier hit $8,000 a tonne as traders awaited news of the action.
