France's young people have been hit hardest by the -economic crisis, with the effects of the downturn compounded by persistent failings in the education system and a high minimum wage, according to a study published yesterday.

Unemployment in the 15- to 24-year-old age group had risen much faster than in the rest of the working population, said the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
