Actions betray G7 talk of unity

When finance ministers of the world’s seven richest nations gather in Washington on Friday, they hope to send the message that they are united in fighting the worst financial crisis in almost a century.

Yet while the world’s central banks showed they could act swiftly and in concert by jointly cutting interest rates this week, recent events have shown governments are determined to stick to their own national rescue plans, despite insisting on a co-ordinated response.
