Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, returned to the scene of his irreverent youthful glories on Wednesday as he campaigned in Brussels against European Union proposals for tighter regulation of hedge funds and private equity.
“I strongly feel that this draft directive should be amended to ensure that we do not cut off a vital supply of investment funding at a time when the economy needs it most,” he said before a meeting with Charlie McCreevy, Europe’s single market commissioner.
