Empire shares rise on UK market debut

Shares in Empire Online made a strong debut on Wednesday as the group became the first internet poker operator to float in London.

Empire, which is chaired by Lord Steinberg, the founder and chairman of Stanley Leisure, has raised £123.5m at 175p-a-share via a placing on London’s Aim market. In early morning trade on Wednesday the shares were trading up 7 per cent at 187½p.
