Financial giant who became a scapegoat

In the 1990s, Robert Rubin was celebrated as a member of the “committee to save the world”. In the decade that followed, he wound up a scapegoat for the financial problems that nearly sank Citigroup.

His decision to step down from Citi’s board, announced on Friday, brings his Wall Street career to an end on a downbeat note.
