US cheer weighs on dollar

The dollar slid sharply on Thursday after data showed the US economy emerged from technical recession in the third quarter.

The US government’s advance estimate showed gross domestic product grew at an annualised rate of 3.5 per cent in the third quarter. It was the first rise since the second quarter of 2008 and beat expectations of a 3.2 per cent increase.
