Consolidation is key to pharma stability

Are megamergers back? This is the question being asked by investors as they witness a rush of deals among the world’s biggest pharmaceutical companies.

Pfizer’s $68bn takeover of Wyeth kicked off the consolidation in January, spurring Roche to launch a $45.7bn hostile bid for Genentech; and Merck to announce a $41.1bn for rival Schering-Plough.
