Wall Street ends a wild week lower

Another highly volatile session on Friday that rounded off a wild week ended sharply in the red as investors took fright at the latest round of bleak economic data.

The market remained downtrodden for much of the session after retail sales figures showed a worse-than-expected 2.8 per cent drop last month, the latest dramatic sign of a collapse in consumer spending.
