PartyGaming is poised to enter the FTSE 100 index as the world's largest quoted online gaming operator after it announced plans on Thursday for a London flotation that could value it at £5.8bn.

Shareholders of the group are selling 23 per cent of the shares, which would make PartyGaming the biggest float in London since William Hill, the bookmaker, came to market in 2002.
